You must first know yourself intimately because a lot of people don't. For instance, there is always that girl who is a slut but it never occurs to her that she is. Or the girl who is a bitch but cries when you tell her that. Or even the girl who is spectacularly kind but denies it when complimented. These types of people are not intimate with themselves because they aren't aware of their good and bad qualities. Once you are aware you can play to your strengths and improve your weaknesses making you a better person. That is the basis of life. Without knowing yourself, how can you know anything else?
